Thin HMA Overlays

One of the most common maintenance methods is a thin overlay of hot mix asphalt. Thin overlays extend the lives of structurally sound pavements by improving functional condition. They provide a flexible and smooth riding surface. Minor surface defects are covered up, giving the appearance of a "new" pavement, however reflection cracking will appear in a short time. The use of polymers can delay the onset of the cracking. Thin overlays usually improve the surface's skid resistance, but do not appreciably correct structural weaknesses. Construction and return to traffic is fairly quick.

Contact your local SemMaterials representative for help with finding the cost-effective means of preserving your pavement. We can supply Stylink® polymer modified asphalt for a longer lasting overlay, or other maintenance alternatives that may make more sense (and cents!) for your pavement.
